Wuesthoff Health System will host a Domestic Violence Workshop on Elder Abuse, Friday, June 29, 8: 30 am to 4 pm, at Wuesthoff’s Brevard Hospice & Palliative Care Center conference room, 8060 Spyglass Hill Road in Viera.
“Our goal is to increase awareness of ‘Elder Abuse,’ neglect, and exploitation among professionals, caregivers, and volunteers,” said Julie Diaz, Wuesthoff Health System Mental Health Counselor. “We hope to increase reporting of elder abuse and to provide education on community resources and support available to prevent abuse.”
Topics will include: An overview of Domestic Violence among Elders, Common Myths, and Warning Signs. Additionally, the Florida Department of Elder Affairs will present and in-depth presentation on “Elder Abuse, Neglect and Exploitation in your Community.”
“We are hoping this workshop will better help Brevard residents be safe during potential elder abuse circumstances,” said Diaz. “Participants will not only come away from the conference better educated, but also have a better idea on how better to utilize the ‘system’ to protect them.”
Registration will begin at 8: 30 am; continental breakfast and lunch will be served. For more information, contact Julie Diaz, at (321) 636-2211, ext. 1090.
